Seeds from GIANTtomato varieties
Claims of "GIANT" have been made for dozens of tomato varieties; yet when you purchase seeds, you can only hope that they carry the genetic material required produce fruits as large as the claims.  More often than not, your results will fall far short of expectations.  An expert, dedicated tomato grower will likely be able to produce tomatoes that are double the size of those listed here.  If you're an average grower (like me), you will likely get something close to what's listed here.
Delectatation of Tomatoes specializes in providing seeds from tomatoes with known, documented genetic potential.  We're obviously in the early stages of this project.  Here, we define a "GIANT" tomato as a variety that has been claimed, somewhere, to reach at least three pounds (1,361 g) harvested weight.  Delectation of Tomatoes is in the process of acquiring seeds of and testing this claim for every variety of "GIANT" tomatoes.  See the latest list and documentation at:  DT Big Tomato List.
As of 3-15-2014, all tomato seeds from the 2014 season have been processed and are ready to ship.  Following is a list of 84 varieties which produced a tomato weighing  least one pound in 2011.  Actual harvested weights are also shown.

When you purchase seeds in this category, you will be provided with a photograph of the very tomato from which those seeds came, along with harvested weight and date. When fully updated, you will be able explore the photographic history of individual tomatoes, sometimes from blossom opening until seed extraction.

Tomato fruit size definitions
Arbitrary terms such as: "currant", "cherry", "salad", "beefsteak", "grape", "pear" and "plum" have been used to describe tomato size (and shape).  Hold on a minute, I thought we were talking about tomatoes, not some other food type!

There is a very simple, objective method for describing the size of a tomato:  put it on scales! Many thanks to other tomato growers for help in developing the following size categories:
Miniature    <1 oz.
Small       1-5 oz.
• Medium   6-16 oz.
Large       >1 lb.
Big       >2 lbs. (claimed)
Giant   > 3 lbs. (documented)
Super Giant > 5 lbs. (documented)
• World Record - still standing since 1986 at 7 lbs., 12 oz. . . .
NOTE: Seeds from 2013 are ready to go as well  Please send an e-mail to dale@gianttomatoseeds.com if there are other varieties you would like but which are not yet listed.

Thank you!
